Learn Nerdy Bike Lane-Speak to Help Sell Bike Projects to Your City

NERD ALERT: The Michigan Department of Transportation is holding a free virtual course exploring the latest in planning and design for bicycle infrastructure, for both on- and off-road facilities.
The course, Virtual Advanced Training Wheels, is set over two days, and it’s intended for engineers and city planners and the like. But registration is open. So if you, like me, are interested in knowing more about the hows and the whys behind decisions to build various types of bike lanes and learning the language engineers and city officials speak when they talk about such things, this is the way.
WHY IT MATTERS: City officials speak their own language. If nothing else, this course will introduce you that lingo, allowing you to sell bike lanes to the people in your town who have their hands on the levers of power. The more you know, the more seriously you’ll be taken. Knowledge is power.
Courses: 1-5 p.m. Nov. 17 and 19; or 8 a.m.-Noon on Dec. 15 and 17.
Register by Nov. 13 or Dec. 11 for respective courses.
